SfP has a proud tradition of helping children to improve their singing, through workshops and residential events, training courses for teachers and vocal leaders, and a range of stimulating song books for use in class and choir. Some workshops are arranged for individual schools and we hold regional singing events on a larger scale. Many of our staff are teachers or work in education and they share their current, relevant information and experience for the benefit of fellow teachers.
We offer bespoke workshop events in individual schools, focusing on aspects such as helping children to find their voices, cross-curricular activities, building confidence, working with school choirs, developing vocal technique and introducing new repertoire. Workshops can be for the whole school, year groups, classes or a series of smaller groups. To discuss requirements for a visit to your school please contact us.
Our residential weekends are an excellent mix of choral singing, games, activities and the experience of staying away from home. We work together with children’s holiday experts ATE to provide a professional team of musical and pastoral staff, enabling accompanying teachers to enjoy time with their children. We stay in suitable hostels or boarding schools and the whole trip is organised in discussion with the individual school. If you would like to request a weekend event please contact us.
We are able to provide some financial support for children’s events thanks to the generosity of the John Lewis Partnership. We also provide a number of bursaries towards the cost of our conducting courses; these bursaries are available to teachers and vocal leaders working with primary school children and also to those aged 16-26 considering a career in this area. Please contact us for more information on obtaining a bursary place for an event.
SfP advocates quick, efficient teaching through vocal demonstration, repetition and reinforcement. On our courses, participants are encouraged to maintain pace throughout the teaching process, making sure phrases link together logically. In essence this is a non-talking, non-stop, time-efficient method of teaching using an effective and systematic series of building blocks.
We can also recommend our Junior Song Book Pack as a resource for schools. It is an excellent collection of material suitable for schools and choirs, including varied, attractive repertoire that encourages part singing and enjoyment.
