Young Conductors Programme: 2019-20

We’re delighted to open the application process for our programme to support aspiring young choral conductors in their training during the 2019-20 academic year, and suitable candidates are now invited to apply for scholarships.

Over the year, successful applicants will benefit from fully funded SfP conductor training, and will further develop their skills and techniques through one-to-one mentoring and support from the Young Conductors Programme leaders.

Scholarships for the programme are awarded to exceptional candidates aged 18-25 who are passionate about embarking on a choral conducting career, but whose financial circumstances prevent them from accessing the specialised training they need to succeed.

How to apply

Candidates should complete the 2019-20 online application form outlining their experience, aspirations and reasons for applying. The application deadline is midnight on Monday 30 September 2019, and those who progress past the first round will be interviewed shortly afterwards; scholarship recipients will be confirmed and announced by the end of October latest.

The scholarships will commence on 2-3 November 2019 at our training weekend in Bolton; it’s vital to note that applicants MUST be able to commit to attending this, and all further training events in 2020.  The dates and provisional locations for these are as follows:

1-2 February 2020 (London)
30-31 May 2020 (West Midlands, exact location tbc)
8-16 August 2020 (Summer School, Keele University)

Additional one-to-one mentoring between courses will be arranged on mutually convenient dates.

Please contact Manvinder Rattan, Head of Conductor Training, for more information and advice about these scholarships and other bursaries available throughout the year.
