10-18 August 2019
Booking is now open for Summer School 2019, with a NEW singers’ course at the start of the week! This must-attend residential event offers training opportunities for choral enthusiasts of every kind – from musicianship and choral courses for singers, and Foundation and Intermediate choral conducting skills training, right through to the demands of the Advanced conducting course.
Courses scheduled will cater for all abilities and styles. Our perennially popular week-long choral conducting courses are available at Foundation, Intermediate 1 and 2 and Advanced levels, so whether you’re new to choral conducting or you want to build on the skills you’ve already acquired from previous SfP training, there’s an appropriate course for you.
Our popular, half-week Choral Courses run from Thursday to Sunday morning, with concert performances on Saturday evening. The Consort Course (led by Rupert Gough, Director of Choral Music at Royal Holloway) is suitable for experienced singers and good sight readers who enjoy exploring challenging repertoire and singing in a small ensemble. Sing Gospel is for anyone wanting to explore traditional and modern gospel music, led by gospel expert and renowned singer, Themba Mvula. Alternatively, if you would like to try your hand at singing a popular choral classic, then the Fauré Requiem course might be for you.
Musicianship for Singers – perfect for singers wanting to develop or improve their sight-reading and vocal technique – runs as a week-long course this year, comprising two distinct strands. From Sunday to Wednesday, musicianship skills development at Foundation level is offered, and then for the remainder of the week, students will participate in one of the choral courses most suited to them, putting into practice what they have learnt in the first four days.
NEW for 2019 as alternative to the musicianship course is our English Heritage Singers’ Course, which focusses on English folk song and choral music; this course is suitable for people with some experience of reading music and also continues on to the choral courses later in the week.
We look forward to welcoming you for a truly unforgettable week!
