Keele, Staffordshire, ST5 5BG
11-19 August 2018
Booking is now open for Summer School 2018! This must-attend week offers training opportunities for choral enthusiasts of every kind – from musicianship and choral courses for singers, and Foundation and Intermediate choral conducting skills training, right through to the demands of the Advanced conducting course.
Courses scheduled will cater for all abilities and styles. Our perennially popular week-long choral conducting courses are available at Foundation, Intermediate 1 and 2 and Advanced levels, so whether you’re new to choral conducting or you want to build on the skills you’ve already acquired from previous SfP training, there’s an appropriate course for you.
Our part-week choral courses, which run from Thursday to Saturday, have undergone a makeover for 2018. New this year is Singing Jazz for all abilities with guest conductor and jazz composer, Will Todd. Alternatively, if you would like to try your hand at singing a popular orchestral work, then Vivaldi Gloria, led by SfP tutor Jane Hampson and also aimed at all abilities, might be for you. The Consort Kaleidoscope course remains unchanged and is for experienced singers and good sight readers who enjoy exploring challenging repertoire in different genres and singing in a small ensemble. This course will be led by guest tutor Régis Harquel from A Coeur Joie Lyon, France.
Musicianship for Singers – perfect for singers wanting to develop or improve their sight-reading and vocal technique – runs as a week-long course this year, comprising two distinct strands. From Sunday to Wednesday, musicianship skills development is offered at two levels (Foundation/Intermediate 1 and Intermediate 2) and for the remainder of the week, students will participate in one of the choral courses most suited to them, putting into practice what they have learnt in the first four days. If you are unsure which musicianship level is right for you to start at, you can take our short pre-course assessment to find out.
We look forward to welcoming you for a truly unforgettable week!
