SfP KnowledgeHub weekly webinars are designed to give you a host of useful tips and suggestions on a wide range of choral and musical topics to put into practice, both now and when choirs are ready to resume activities safely against the backdrop of the Covid-19 pandemic. Each webinar takes place on a Wednesday at 7:00pm, lasting for 40 minutes unless specified otherwise – and we’re delighted to be welcoming four external guest presenters for Series 5. Details of the webinar dates, titles, outlines and session leaders are as follows:

4 November – Webinar #21:
A Star is Born: Planning and Delivering a Primary School Carol Service, led by Mother Carrie Thompson
Come and explore some ideas, top tips and potential pitfalls for child-friendly carol services in church schools, community schools and other settings.  We’ll also look at how the material in the Junior Song Book ‘A Star Is Born’ could be used to support learning and collective worship in November and December.  No prior experience necessary, although prizes will be awarded for the best horror story involving glitter, oranges and naked flames.

11 November – Webinar #22:
Introducing Gospel Music to Choirs, led by Themba Mvula
This webinar will explore different ways of introducing Gospel music to choirs, with lots of practical ideas and techniques, and a particular focus on how to encourage expressive singing, and natural movement, which are such key features of the Gospel tradition.

18 November – Webinar #23:
Everything Including the Kitchen Sink!, led by Simone Rebello
Something rather different – percussionist Simone Rebello gives you an insight into the wonderful world of percussion, from the triangle to the waterphone and the tambourine to the spring drum. Get tips on playing basic percussion and learn about some of Simone’s more unusual instruments and wacky performances.

25 November – Webinar #24:
Online School Resources, led by Ula Weber
Find out how to access and use the best online school resources. From the interactive singing games of Ex Cathedra Singing Playgrounds to specially commissioned children’s songs by Friday Afternoons, there’s a wealth of top quality material out there, to develop singing in every school setting.

2 December – Webinar #25:
Social Prescribing and Choirs, led by Baz Chapman and Emily Foulkes
Social Prescribing is an important feature of the NHS Long Term Plan, and is seeing increasing numbers of people directed to activities in their local areas – including singing groups – to support their health and wellbeing. Explore how Social Prescribing works, how it could affect your choir, and how to make your choir Social Prescribing-ready.

You can sign up for as many webinars as you choose, for a small fee of £5 each; and if you sign up for all five in the series, you qualify for a special bundle price of £20 – in essence, buy four webinars, get one free!
