Course Description

For more experienced conductors who can’t commit to our full Conductor’s Toolkit course during the conference, we’re now offering three short courses comprised of practical, interactive online workshops – each focusing on a different subject area.

The topics for these courses, along with the dates, times and titles of each of the associated four hour-long sessions, are as follows:


The Role of the Conductor

Conducting Recitative – Tuesday 11 August, 11.30am-12.30pm
Concert Management – Wednesday 12 August, 11.30am-12.30pm
The Conductor as Leader – Thursday 13 August, 11.30am-12.30pm

Writing for Choirs
Led by Don Gillthorpe


Rounds – Tuesday 11 August, 3.00pm-4.00pm
Arranging – Wednesday 12 August, 3.00pm-4.00pm
Feedback on submissions 1 – Thursday 13 August, 11.30am-12.30pm

Interpreting Music
Led by Sarah Tenant-Flowers


Renaissance: Byrd,Vigilate – Monday 10 August, 1.30pm-2.30pm
Baroque: Bach, Komm, Jesu, Komm – Tuesday 11 August,1.30pm-2.30pm
Classical: Haydn, Excerpts from Creation – Wednesday 12 August,1.30pm-2.30pm
Romantic: Bruckner, Christus factus est and Rachmaninov, Bogoroditse Devo

Each course costs £60 for SfP members (£75 for non-members), and you can sign up to take part in as many as you wish, depending on your level of experience; please note that the booking deadline is 5 August. Further details, including instructions for joining each online course workshop, will be sent to you from the end of July onwards.

Cost per course,  including digital resources: £60 for members, £75 for non-members. Please note that it is possible to book for one, two or all three courses, depending on your level of experience; payment is via our online shop.
