In conjunction with ABRSM, we are delighted to announce today that our Advanced Conducting Course will now offer a direct pathway to the LRSM in Choral Directing. ABRSM examiners will be assessing defined rehearsals and performances for the first time at this year’s Summer School, which runs at Keele University from 11 to 19 August.
The opportunity to obtain this Level 6 degree-equivalent qualification is open in the main to those who have accumulated two years’ training experience with us at Advanced level. It also presents an attractive future option to gain an internationally-recognised professional qualification for individuals who are currently following SfP’s choral conductor training programme, or anyone who is relatively new to the field and is contemplating starting their SfP journey.
CEO and Head of Conductor Training Manvinder Rattan commented: “We train nearly 300 conductors a year, almost all of whom start at Foundation or Intermediate I level; 99.2% of course attendees responding to our feedback requests rate our training as good to excellent, because of our emphasis on building a strong foundation of key vocal leadership skills before moving ahead in a positive learning environment. This development allows us to clearly benchmark the high quality and relevance of our training in today’s choral world.”
John Holmes, ABRSM Chief Examiner, added: “SfP plays a vital role in the training of Choral directors of the future, so we are pleased to be working in partnership with them to provide a tangible qualification to support and affirm the valuable learning and development that advanced conductors gain from this course. Our LRSM diploma balances assessment of the repertoire demands with assessment of the musical, technical and interpersonal skills needed by successful directors. We hope that this will become a valuable additional dimension for those training with SfP.”
Individuals who are interested in this opportunity and who meet the eligibility criteria should email Manvinder Rattan soonest to discuss the application procedure; please note that the deadline for submitting applications will be 30 June 2018.
