We use a number of excellent tutors to assist us in our course production. Our highly skilled team are all members of Sing for Pleasure and bring a range of experiences as professional conductors, musicians, teachers, trainers, adjudicators and workshop leaders. In addition to our Management Team and Trustees, who are regular course tutors, we have recently engaged the following professionals:

Christine Nelson

Christine is a freelance vocal specialist and a popular Sing for Pleasure tutor. She has trained with the Naked Voice Foundation and is now a facilitator, working with both adults and children. She works part time for Stockport Music Service and also runs a local community choir.  Christine is a former recipient of the John Coates Baton, awarded to the conducting student who has shown the most progress during an SfP Summer School.

Carolyn Necklen

Carolyn has been working as a freelance music teacher in Leicestershire since 1996. She conducts a primary school choir and 5 adult choirs, including 2 ladies choirs, a male voice choir, a mixed voice choir and the newly formed JLP Leciester Choir. Many of these singers are non-music readers. Carolyn has tutored on many children’s singing days and weekends for Sing for Pleasure as well as being an advisory teacher with The Voices Foundation.

Jill Henderson-Wild

Originally from Oldham, Jill studied the ‘cello with Joan Dickson, a professor at the Royal College of Music, before becoming a Choral Scholar at Girton College, Cambridge, where she read music. After graduating, she studies choral and orchestral conducting at  the Conservatoire of Geneva and was awarded ‘Le Prix du Conseil de l’Etat’ with her diploma. Following this, Jill went to Lisbon as Chorus Master to the Gulbenkian Foundation and then worked as Development Officer, and subsequently Music Director for Sing for Pleasure for several years. She continued as SfP’s Head of Conductor Training for some time after this, and she currently works as the Vocal Animateur for Stockport, supporting and promoting singing within all the borough’s schools, as well as delivering INSET training for teachers. She was Chorus Master to the Leeds Philharmonic Society for ten years before joining the Manchester Chorale in 1996.

Christine Hale
