We use a number of excellent tutors to assist us in our course production. Our highly skilled team are all members of Sing for Pleasure and bring a range of experiences as professional conductors, musicians, teachers, trainers, adjudicators and workshop leaders. In addition to our Management Team and Trustees, who are regular course tutors, we have recently engaged the following professionals:
Suzzie Vango is a professional singer performing regularly as a soloist throughout the UK and with choirs such as Enchanted Voices, National Chamber Choir of Ireland and Tenebrae. Suzzie is the assistant conductor for the National Children’s Choir of Great Britain and Farnham Junior Boys Choir, choral director for Edgbaston High School and has been a guest conductor for the professional choir, Ex Cathedra. Suzzie is in high demand as a voice coach, conductor and workshop leader. Recently through her workshop delivery in the UK she has collaborated with a number of established organisations including: NYCOS, SingUp, The Lichfield Music Festival and Glyndebourne Youth Opera. Her extensive international work has taken her to Estonia, Cyprus, China, The USA and Thailand. Suzzie believes that people of any age can enjoy singing whilst pushing themselves to their full potential.
Imelda Shirley is an experienced teacher, choral conductor, workshop leader and adjudicator. She has been an active and passionate member of Sing for Pleasure for over 30 years where, as a senior conducting tutor, she works on a range of events including the annual summer school and on the recently acclaimed Vocal Leadership Training Programme (VLTP).
A former recipient of the BFYC/BT Award for a choral conductor, Imelda now conducts the 100+ strong Wigan Community Choir and several school choirs. She is Assistant Head of Wigan Music Service, taking a lead for Early Years music education and a number of vocal/curriculum projects in schools.
Imelda holds an MA in Music Education from the Institute of Education (now UCL) and she sings with the Sine Nomine International Touring Choir.
Carolyn has been working as a freelance music teacher in Leicestershire since 1996. She conducts a primary school choir and 5 adult choirs, including 2 ladies choirs, a male voice choir, a mixed voice choir and the newly formed JLP Leciester Choir. Many of these singers are non-music readers. Carolyn has tutored on many children’s singing days and weekends for Sing for Pleasure as well as being an advisory teacher with The Voices Foundation.
Ruth works for Welsh National Opera as a Producer in the Youth & Community Department and is responsible for WNO’s portfolio of community singing and community opera projects. Originally from North Wales and an undergraduate at Oxford University (St Edmund Hall) with a choral scholarship. She completed a MA in music from Bangor University studying voice and editorial musicology. She is an active choral conductor including Côr Dewi Sant (St. David’s Choir), Côr Meibion Caerwys (Caerwys Male Voice Choir), Chester Music Society Alumni Choir and assistant conductor at the North Wales International Music Festival. Alongside her Opera Education work, Ruth is also a vocal animateur for CânSing (Welsh National Schools singing project) leading classroom sessions, teacher training events and jamborees.
