Bursaries are offered to help participants attend many Sing for Pleasure courses. Currently they are available for: the week-long Summer School, the weekend conductor/singer events, and the 5-day conducting courses (covering 5 days over a period of about 5 months).
These bursaries arise through the generosity of several supporting bodies including the John Lewis Partnership, the Annie Collins Fund and the Neil Webster Trust. The maximum amount available per person is usually between 1/3 and 1/2 of the fee.
Bursary funds are mainly intended to support:
Teachers who wish to attend a conducting course and who are not financially supported in this by their school or Local Education Authority.
Individuals aged 16-26 who wish to attend either a singing or conducting course.
The application process may vary slightly depending on the source of the funds, but applicants are usually asked to apply in writing (by post or email) supplying the following information:
Brief details of their experience and current involvement in (as appropriate) singing, conducting, music and/or teaching.
The contact details of two referees.
An outline of why they are applying for a bursary and what they hope to gain from the course.
In return for the award, successful recipients are asked:
To be ready to help with some minor aspects of administration during the course, if needed.
To submit, after the course, a brief report detailing the benefits they gained from the course.
Funds for bursaries are by their nature limited and early application to the National Office is advised.
